Sunday Smorgasbord!

Still no baby!  I go back to the doctor tomorrow and we will figure out what the plan is.

We have been working like crazy getting things done around the house this week.  Hubster is also on his summer break so we always use this time to get caught up.  We even got the garage cleaned up the other day.

I trimmed trees yesterday morning by the barn and the little kittens discovered a new playground.  That would be a kitten on the roof of the barn!  I thought maybe they were stuck up there, but the mom has been going up and down and I have seen a few kittens come down so I think they are fine.  They certainly found a cool and shady spot to play.

I have a fabulous teammate!  We normally print the picture dictionaries for writing each month and pass them out to the kiddos.  Well, she decided to print them, put them in page protectors, and put them right in their writing folder this year.  And the best part...she offered to do mine for me too!

We have started using Engage NY for math and it requires a trillion copies!  It is free online or you can buy workbooks that have everything printed.  The district, hears "free", and assumes it costs less to copy than to buy.  Who know what the cost difference is, but I know the amount of time it takes!  Not to mention the fact that our copiers never work.  The district is in the process of replacing all of the copiers, but of course we are at the bottom of the list and won't see them until some time in 2015.  Our principal heard our frustration and made a phone call to the district's copy center.  They made all of our copies, and are sitting in 95 boxes waiting for us.  I consider it a going away present from him to us. (He is retiring next week.)

Tried and True Thursday!

I have said it before and I will say it again...Magazine Files from Ikea!  They used to be $1.99 for a pack of 5, now they are only $1.49.  I know they are not as cute as the colorful ones from all of our teaching catalogs, but who really want to pay that much for them to be cute?  I use labels to keep myself organized and I use them all over my room.  I use them for my center games, my library, the shelves at the end of each group to store their folders.  EVERYWHERE!  Yes, they get damaged as the year goes on, but you can replace them without hurting your wallet.

One more for you...Velcro and felt!  I (my mom) covered my bulletin boards with black felt so that I don't have to wrestle the ginormous rolls of paper every year to redo my boards. I then used Velcro on the back of everything I wanted to hang so that it stays and I can easily move it when I need to.  My word wall is also done in Velcro so that the kiddos and I can add and remove words as necessary. (One bonus tried and true tip... label your word wall words on the back so that you can keep them organized.  Use the unit that you introduce them with, the week of school, number them in order, etc. Do something so that you don't have to waste 10 minutes searching for the word "of"!)  Our building hates all things sticky tack, masking tape, Scotch tape, nothing stays for more than a day.  I don't know if it is the humidity or what, but Velcro is the way to go.  I use the dots more than anything.  Shop around because Velcro is expensive and varies state to state.  Velcro is half the prince in PA that is in OK so my mom shops for it in PA and brings it out with her when she comes.  My teammates and I just reimburse her when she gets here.

Did I mention we also have been known to have my grandma shop in IL at Ikea for us? It is quite possible that one time, my grandma met my mom on the highway in IL when my mom was driving from PA to OK and they put all the Ikea items in my mom's car so she could finish transporting them.  (Did someone say bootlegging?)

Workin' On It Wednesday!

I have been working like crazy on a new game called Skerch!   I uploaded three versions this week!  Check it out in my store.

I also have been working on a Predictable Sentence Pack.  The pack will feature predictable sentences that students can fill in the blank with a selection of words.  I am so excited to finally dive into this project.  It has been on my to-do list for quite some time.

Over the last week, I have been getting food in the freezer for when the baby gets here.  I can't believe I have one week left!  The hubster and I keep asking each other "When is the baby going to get here?"  We are tired of waiting.  The school year went by so fast and these last few weeks have drug on forever!  Is it terrible that I am already getting sad about having to go back to school?  Do you think we can win the lottery between now and then so that I can stay home and snuggle my little peanut?

We Love Books! Druscilla's Halloween

I discovered this book while browsing the E-Books our school has to offer.  A few pages later, I was hooked!  The vocabulary in here is fabulous!  Upper elementary teachers, this book has great examples of alliteration, onomatopoeia, etc.  Early childhood teachers, it's all about exposure!  Take a peek for your self.

This story is all about how witches started flying on brooms.

Druscilla the witch, could not sneak around because her knees were so noisy.

She tried to train a donkey to help her sneak around.

She tried to ride in a wheelbarrow to sneak around.

She tried to make wings to sneak around.

Then, she had the great idea to cast a spell on her broomstick.

My First Made It Monday!

Baby Leib and I have been put on partial bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy.  Baby Leib wasn't gaining weight like they had hoped.  During my first week of partial bed rest Baby Leib gained 1.25 lbs.  I would say we are back on track!  I have been using this as an excuse to finish up projects for school and start making more goodies for TPT!  Last week I finished all of our units for math on the Promethean.  We switched math series this year and are using Engage NY.  This was a big change for us and involved way too much teacher directed teaching and way too much reading for the teachers as well!  We modified the process here and there and feel like we finally have a more manageable math block for next year.

I also headed to school to print off these cuties before my doctor's appointment last week...
