I have been working on this post all day, but then Wyatt would squirm, or smile, or just be completely adorable and I would get distracted. (For the record, I don't care what "they" say, a smile is a smile.) The hubster and I have become "those parents" the ones who are completely obsessed with their new baby and can't stop staring at him or stop kissing him. This summer is going to fly by and I want every second of snuggling I can get.
Ok, ok Book Talk Tuesday...this week is all about Zoom. Wordless picture books make your kiddos seem and feel so smart! They are a major confidence booster especially at the beginning of the year. We use wordless pucture books several times throughout the year. At the beginning of the year, we use them to emphasize the strategy "look at the picture". The kiddos are amazed that they can "read" the book. Later in the year, we use them for main idea. Main idea is a scary topic for firsties, but put a wordless picture book in their hands and suddenly they can tell you what it's all about. Even if you don't care for Zoom, try to work wordless picture books into your units, you will be surprised how helpful they are.
Here is a child playing with a town.
Wait, that's just a picture on a magazine.
And that boy, holding the magazine, is on a cruise ship. That cruise ship is an ad on the side of a bus.
The book continues to "zoom out" farther and farther. Nothing is as it seems.
